In 2022, the amount of onions (dry) produced in the United States reduced to 2.9M tons, declining by -5.2% against 2021. Overall, production saw a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the production volume increased by 5.8%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum volume at 3.7M tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure. Onion output in the United States indicated a perceptible contraction, which was largely conditioned by a perceptible reduction of the harvested area and a mild descent in yield figures.
In value terms, onion production dropped to $2.3B in 2022. In general, production recorded a mild shrinkage. In 2022, the average yield of onions (dry) in the United States amounted to 57 tons per ha, flattening at the year before. In general, the yield, however, saw a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of 63 tons per ha.
