Sugar Beet Production in Mexico - 2022
After two years of growth, production of sugar beet decreased by -0.4% to 877 tons in 2022. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 2.4% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 892 tons. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure. Sugar beet output in Mexico indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.
In value terms, sugar beet production expanded remarkably to $54K in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production recorded a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8%. Sugar beet production peaked at $69K in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the harvested area of sugar beet in Mexico stood at 68 ha, approximately equating 2021. Over the period under review, the harvested area saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the harvested area decreased by -1.4%. Over the period under review, the harvested area dedicated to sugar beet production reached the peak figure at 69 ha in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the harvested area failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the average yield of sugar beet in Mexico contracted modestly to 13 tons per ha, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. Overall, the yield, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 3.9% against the previous year. As a result, the yield reached the peak level of 13 tons per ha. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of the average sugar beet yield failed to regain momentum.
