Walnut Production in Mexico - 2022
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in production of walnuts, when its volume increased by 11% to 150K tons. In general, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, production reached the maximum volume at 171K tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum. Walnut output in Mexico indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a noticeable curtailment in yield figures.
In value terms, walnut production reduced to $510M in 2022 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 28% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $600M. From 2019 to 2022, production growth remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Walnut Harvested Area in Mexico - 2022
In 2022, the total area harvested in terms of walnuts production in Mexico fell modestly to 110K ha, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year's figure. The harvested area increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the period from 2017 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the harvested area increased by 7.4% against the previous year. The walnut harvested area peaked at 112K ha in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
Walnut Yield in Mexico - 2022
In 2022, the average walnut yield in Mexico was estimated at 1.4 tons per ha, rising by 12% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, the yield, however, recorded a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the average walnut yield attained the peak level at 1.7 tons per ha in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the yield failed to regain momentum.
