In 2022, the average pulp; of bamboo import price amounted to $930 per ton, declining by -3.8% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pulp; of bamboo import price increased by +14.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 182% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,060 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($936 per ton), while the price for Indonesia stood at $768 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+7.8%).
Pulp; of Bamboo Price in Vietnam (FOB) - 2022
The average pulp; of bamboo export price stood at $215 per ton in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a dramatic contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $7,938 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($223 per ton), while the average price for exports to China amounted to $213 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (-30.4%).
Pulp; of Bamboo Imports in Vietnam
In 2022, purchases abroad of pulp; of bambooes decreased by -35.3% to 899 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 245%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.4K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, pulp; of bamboo imports shrank rapidly to $836K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 310% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.3M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In 2022, shipments abroad of pulp; of bambooes decreased by -7.2% to 19 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 106% against the previous year.
In value terms, pulp; of bamboo exports declined to $4.1K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 15%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $4.4K, and then reduced in the following year.
