The average quartzite import price stood at $826 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 65%. The import price peaked at $1,504 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($28,383 per ton), while the price for India ($317 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+456.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Quartzite Price in Costa Rica (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average quartzite export price amounted to $237 per ton, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a dramatic setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 166%. The export price peaked at $3,156 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($294 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua totaled $55 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+89.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Quartzite Imports in Costa Rica
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of quartzite decreased by -23.5% to 53 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 205%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 69 tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, quartzite imports shrank dramatically to $44K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 370% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $55K, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
