Recovered Paper Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average recovered paper export price stood at $172 per ton in 2022, reducing by -1.7% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average export price increased by 31%. The export price peaked at $190 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Rwanda ($380 per ton), while the average price for exports to Pakistan ($126 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Recovered Paper Price in Kenya (CIF) - 2022
The average recovered paper import price stood at $206 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 47%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $412 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uganda ($434 per ton), while the price for Tanzania ($39 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Recovered Paper Exports in Kenya
In 2022, shipments abroad of recovered paper decreased by -33.1% to 5.4K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 142%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 8.1K tons, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, recovered paper exports shrank markedly to $926K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 217% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.4M, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
