Recovered Paper Price in Thailand (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average recovered paper import price amounted to $169 per ton, picking up by 3.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The import price peaked at $276 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from the United States ($179 per ton) and Japan ($161 per ton), while the price for the UK ($129 per ton) and Spain ($137 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (-3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Recovered Paper Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average recovered paper export price amounted to $263 per ton, dropping by -5.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a perceptible decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 55% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $345 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($306 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($76.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Recovered Paper Imports in Thailand
In 2022, the amount of recovered paper imported into Thailand declined remarkably to 2.3M tons, reducing by -18.5% against 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 114% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.8M tons, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, recovered paper imports fell sharply to $607M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 268% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $729M, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Recovered Paper Exports in Thailand
In 2022, shipments abroad of recovered paper decreased by -25.6% to 47K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 135K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, recovered paper exports contracted to $15M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 57%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $25M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
