Roasted Coffee Substitutes Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022
The average roasted coffee substitutes import price stood at $1,673 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -10.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,568 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Brazil ($12,294 per ton), while the price for India ($1,053 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Roasted Coffee Substitutes Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average roasted coffee substitutes export price amounted to $10,509 per ton, waning by -14.1% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, roasted coffee substitutes export price increased by +25.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 141%. The export price peaked at $12,233 per ton in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($27,541 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($3,760 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+118.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Roasted Coffee Substitutes Imports in Sri Lanka
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of roasted chicory and other roasted coffee substitutes, when their volume decreased by -9.3% to 7.9 tons. Overall, imports, however, saw a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 104%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 8.7 tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes imports contracted rapidly to $13K in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 60%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $16K, and then dropped sharply in the following year.

Roasted Coffee Substitutes Exports in Sri Lanka
Roasted coffee substitutes exports from Sri Lanka reduced markedly to 423 kg in 2022, which is down by -38.3% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a slight increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 1,063% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 686 kg, and then fell dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, roasted coffee substitutes exports reduced markedly to $4.4K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 1,606% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $8.4K, and then reduced remarkably in the following year.
