Saccharin Price in China (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average saccharin export price amounted to $5,978 per ton, which is down by -2.1% against the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 5% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $7,203 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In June 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to Brazil ($7,586 per ton) and Vietnam ($6,546 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($5,330 per ton) and Russia ($5,420 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (-0.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Saccharin Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average saccharin import price amounted to $16,434 per ton, increasing by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $17,896 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($38,909 per ton), while the price for the United States ($7,668 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+110.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Saccharin Exports in China
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of saccharin and its salts decreased by -14.9% to 15K tons in 2022. In general, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year.
In value terms, saccharin exports declined to $105M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 15%.

Saccharin Imports in China
In 2022, overseas purchases of saccharin and its salts decreased by -30.4% to 76 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 113% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 117 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, saccharin imports declined significantly to $1.2M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last three-year period.
