Sails Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average sails import price stood at $29,582 per ton in September 2023, surging by 35% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 69% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $52,768 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Sri Lanka ($99,358 per ton), while the price for China ($3,872 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Sails Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sails export price amounted to $94,606 per ton, growing by 45% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight curtailment. The export price peaked at $118,774 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saint Maarten (Dutch part) ($226,603 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($25,701 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Saint Maarten (Dutch part) (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sails Imports in the United States
In 2022, the amount of sails imported into the United States dropped significantly to 1.7K tons, waning by -16.5% on the year before. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +32.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 2.1K tons, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
In value terms, sails imports rose markedly to $38M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 33%.

Sails Exports in the United States
After two years of decline, shipments abroad of sails increased by 41% to 199 tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a drastic downturn.
In value terms, sails exports surged to $19M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a abrupt decline.
