Salt Price in Azerbaijan (CIF) - 2023
The average salt import price stood at $107 per ton in September 2023, which is down by -22.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 43% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $152 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belarus ($227 per ton), while the price for Iran ($80.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Salt Price in Azerbaijan (FOB) - 2022
The average salt export price stood at $106 per ton in 2022, surging by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $143 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($142 per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia amounted to $92 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Georgia (+2.6%).
Salt Imports in Azerbaijan
For the third consecutive year, Azerbaijan recorded decline in purchases abroad of salt and pure sodium chloride, which decreased by -12.9% to 16K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The smallest decline of -1.6% was in 2021.
In value terms, salt imports contracted notably to $2M in 2022. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 2.2% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.4M, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Salt Exports in Azerbaijan
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of salt and pure sodium chloride, when their volume increased by 25% to 23K tons. Overall, exports, however, showed a noticeable decline.
In value terms, salt exports soared to $2.4M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
