In January 2023, the sawmill product price amounted to $1,409 per ton (CIF, US), which is down by -28.7% against the previous month.
In 2020, the construction boom in the U.S. set off an unprecedented demand for sawnwood, outpacing the rate of recovery from disruptions due to Covid. With stocks depleting, product prices have skyrocketed over the previous year. From February 2021, lumber mill utilization began to fall following a weaker activity in the construction sector. According to the results of the year, growth in the sawnwood market is predicted, stimulated by a continuing increase in construction.
The U.S. reconstituted wood product market is estimated at approx. $12B. Over May-June 2020, the production and imports recovered from the lockdown-related drop and continued to grow. It is driven by rapidly growing suburban construction and the related need to equip homes with furniture. Should the pandemic wane in 2021, the market is to continue measured growth.
In May 2023, the growth pace of Truss was exceptionally rapid, with a remarkable increase of 123% compared to the previous month. However, in November 2023, the value of truss imports significantly declined to $4.3M.
The value of Truss imports experienced a significant increase to $4.4M in July 2023.
In value terms, truss imports soared to $2.5M in March 2023.
In May 2023, the growth rate of Wood Preservation was the most rapid, experiencing a month-on-month increase of 25%. However, in August 2023, the value of wood preservation exports declined to $33M.
In April 2023, the wood preservation price amounted to $1,303 per ton (FOB, US), increasing by 8.3% against the previous month.
In value terms, hardwood veneer and plywood imports reached $127M in March 2023.
