The average selenium import price stood at $3,824 per ton in 2022, reducing by -16.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a dramatic decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 81%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $195,145 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($6,824 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,597 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average selenium export price stood at $5,748 per ton in 2022, flattening at the previous year. In general, export price indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, selenium export price increased by +23.0% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 70%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $5,959 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($7,096 per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($3,661 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greenland (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Selenium Imports in Denmark

In 2022, the amount of selenia imported into Denmark totaled 153 tons, increasing by 4.9% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 33%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 167% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $501K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
