Sesame Seed Price in Kenya (FOB) - 2022
The average sesame seed export price stood at $1,283 per ton in 2022, rising by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sesame seed export price increased by +10.3% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,649 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Saudi Arabia ($1,352 per ton) and Turkey ($1,321 per ton), while the average price for exports to Yemen ($1,009 per ton) and Oman ($1,184 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+33.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sesame seed import price stood at $1,515 per ton in 2022, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a measured expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 61%. The import price peaked at $1,737 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
