The average sheep; live import price stood at $74.6 per unit in September 2023, rising by 7.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 an increase of 8.7% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $89.8 per unit in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Russia ($82.7 per unit), while the price for Georgia totaled $73.4 per unit.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.1%).
Sheep; Live Imports in Azerbaijan
In 2022, the amount of sheep; live imported into Azerbaijan soared to 195K units, rising by 65% against 2021 figures. In general, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sheep; live imports skyrocketed to $16M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +48.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
