Sheep; Live Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average sheep; live export price amounted to $148 per unit, falling by -1.7% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 17% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $188 per unit in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Israel ($155 per unit), while the average price for exports to Spain ($110 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average sheep; live import price stood at $136 per unit in August 2023, picking up by 26% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $137 per unit in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Spain.
