Shrimp Price in France (CIF) - 2023
The average shrimp import price stood at $7,728 per ton in May 2023, falling by -2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 14% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $9,110 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Madagascar ($16,976 per ton), while the price for Venezuela ($4,492 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Price in France (FOB) - 2023
In May 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $10,804 per ton, declining by -8.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 6.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $11,823 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($15,045 per ton), while the average price for exports to Gabon ($3,805 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Imports in France
In 2022, supplies from abroad of shrimps decreased by -11.2% to 113K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 127K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, shrimp imports dropped slightly to $1B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $1.1B, and then fell in the following year.
