Shrimp Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023

The average shrimp import price stood at $10,458 per ton in May 2023, with an increase of 3.7% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $11,466 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to May 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($13,111 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($6,297 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Spain (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Shrimp Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023

In May 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $8,553 per ton, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 28% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $10,609 per ton. From February 2023 to May 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($12,150 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($2,070 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Shrimp Imports in Germany

In 2022, purchases abroad of shrimps decreased by -8.3% to 65K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 71K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, shrimp imports reduced to $742M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 14%.

Shrimp Exports in Germany

In 2022, overseas shipments of shrimps decreased by -19.6% to 21K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 13%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 26K tons, and then fell dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, shrimp exports shrank to $187M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $205M, and then reduced in the following year.
