In May 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $7,263 per ton, with an increase of 1.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 an increase of 55% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7,751 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($13,753 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($3,750 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shrimp export price stood at $7,148 per ton in May 2023, declining by -2.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 32% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $7,510 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to May 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($9,375 per ton), while the average price for exports to Albania ($5,184 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Albania (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Imports in Greece
In 2022, approx. 12K tons of shrimps were imported into Greece; with a decrease of -6.6% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +40.0% against 2020 indices. Overall, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +65.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 65%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $88M, leveling off in the following year.
