Shrimp Price in Guatemala (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $6,132 per ton, which is down by -5.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a mild decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 14% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $7,657 per ton. From March 2023 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($9,245 per ton), while the average price for exports to Taiwan (Chinese) ($4,703 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $3,816 per ton, with a decrease of -6.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $4,072 per ton in May 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($6,358 per ton), while the price for Honduras ($2,561 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Exports in Guatemala
In 2022, shipments abroad of shrimps decreased by -2.4% to 11K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 20%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 53%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
