In May 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $8,737 per ton, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 8.4% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $9,472 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to May 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($11,303 per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($6,925 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ecuador (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $10,442 per ton, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a moderate increase from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, shrimp export price increased by +16.1% against March 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 45% m-o-m. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $11,360 per ton. From August 2022 to May 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($32,210 per ton), while the average price for exports to Guam ($8,101 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+115.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
