Shrimp Price in Jordan (CIF) - 2022

In December 2022, the average shrimp import price amounted to $9,582 per ton, which is down by -2.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 2.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $9,850 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to December 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Vietnam ($11,001 per ton) and Saudi Arabia ($11,001 per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($9,230 per ton) and India ($9,437 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (+0.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average shrimp export price amounted to $9,282 per ton, stabilizing at the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 126% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $12,210 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Free Zones ($10,226 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates stood at $8,799 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+3.3%).

Shrimp Imports in Jordan

For the fourth consecutive year, Jordan recorded growth in purchases abroad of shrimps, which increased by 2.5% to 1K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +44.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, shrimp imports rose markedly to $10M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 28%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
