Shrimp Price in Mexico (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $11,488 per ton, surging by 2.4% against the previous month. In general, the export price enjoyed moderate growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 an increase of 39% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $17,131 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From July 2022 to June 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +4.9% per month.
Shrimp Price in Mexico (CIF) - 2023
The average shrimp import price stood at $4,000 per ton in June 2023, rising by 14% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a slight decline. The import price peaked at $5,597 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Honduras ($9,543 per ton), while the price for China ($3,086 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Honduras (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Shrimp Exports in Mexico
In 2022, shipments abroad of shrimps was finally on the rise to reach 34K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage.
