Shrimp Price in New Zealand (CIF) - 2023
The average shrimp import price stood at $8,419 per ton in June 2023, remaining constant against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.8% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $9,542 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($10,246 per ton) and China ($9,288 per ton), while the price for India ($7,584 per ton) and Malaysia ($7,745 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

In June 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $29,833 per ton, declining by -12.2% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 247% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $49,591 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was China ($62,738 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($7,878 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+33.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
