In May 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $8,718 per ton, picking up by 7.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $9,711 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to May 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($12,198 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($4,036 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Price in Poland (FOB) - 2023
The average shrimp export price stood at $10,832 per ton in May 2023, picking up by 12% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a moderate increase from May 2022 to May 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on May 2023 figures, shrimp export price decreased by -12.5% against March 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 an increase of 74% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $12,379 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to May 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($18,573 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,555 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Imports in Poland
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of shrimps, when their volume decreased by -16.4% to 8.6K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 27%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 10K tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, shrimp imports reached $81M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +46.4% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 25%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
