Shrimp Price in Qatar (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $4,343 per ton, shrinking by -10.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 100% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,924 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($8,494 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,676 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sri Lanka (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Imports in Qatar
In 2022, overseas purchases of shrimps decreased by -6.4% to 4.6K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a slight decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.4K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, shrimp imports contracted slightly to $21M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -1.3% was in 2020.
