Shrimp Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022

The average shrimp import price stood at $8,515 per ton in September 2022, remaining constant against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from September 2021 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.0% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, shrimp import price decreased by -0.8% against March 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 when the average import price increased by 31% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $8,601 per ton in August 2022, and then fell slightly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($13,515 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($6,577 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2021 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+5.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average shrimp export price amounted to $9,586 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a modest expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, shrimp export price decreased by -29.8% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 23%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $13,654 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($16,981 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($5,521 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Shrimp Imports in Singapore

In 2022, approx. 26K tons of shrimps were imported into Singapore; surging by 2.6% on the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 6.7%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, shrimp imports rose modestly to $149M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 21%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
