In May 2023, the average shrimp import price amounted to $7,485 per ton, shrinking by -3.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $7,767 per ton in April 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Morocco ($17,769 per ton), while the price for Venezuela ($4,741 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shrimp export price stood at $9,589 per ton in May 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.9% month-to-month. The export price peaked in May 2023.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In May 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($11,815 per ton) and Italy ($10,832 per ton), while the average price for exports to Morocco ($8,245 per ton) and Portugal ($8,469 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Imports in Spain
In 2022, the amount of shrimps imported into Spain fell to 164K tons, shrinking by -10.6% on the previous year's figure. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year.
