Shrimp Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average shrimp export price amounted to $9,713 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average export price increased by 102% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $12,880 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($19,771 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($2,416 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average shrimp import price stood at $3,668 per ton in 2022, growing by 2.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 an increase of 237% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $6,239 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($13,106 per ton), while the price for India ($1,845 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, shrimp exports from Sri Lanka expanded modestly to 4.9K tons, with an increase of 2.2% on the previous year's figure. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 155%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
