Shrimp Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
The average shrimp import price stood at $9,945 per ton in April 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $11,132 per ton. From November 2022 to April 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($12,895 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($6,428 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+17.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
In April 2023, the average shrimp export price amounted to $9,177 per ton, waning by -12.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 16% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $13,304 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to April 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($50,482 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($4,024 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Shrimp Imports in the UK
In 2022, shrimp imports into the UK rose modestly to 86K tons, increasing by 1.6% on the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 10%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, shrimp imports totaled $867M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
