Shrimp Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
The average shrimp import price stood at $6,019 per ton in May 2023, dropping by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,436 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to May 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Bangladesh ($12,636 per ton), while the price for Canada ($4,572 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shrimp Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2022
The average shrimp export price stood at $7,385 per ton in 2022, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 87%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $14,693 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($14,473 per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($5,526 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Azerbaijan (+43.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Shrimp Imports in Ukraine
For the fourth year in a row, Ukraine recorded growth in overseas purchases of shrimps, which increased by 0.5% to 17K tons in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, shrimp imports reached $78M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +21.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +78.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Shrimp Exports in Ukraine
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of shrimps decreased by less than 0.1% to 399 tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 716% against the previous year.
In value terms, shrimp exports amounted to $2.9M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 813% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
