Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel or transformer steel, is a special type of steel that is used for making transformer cores, electric motors, and generators. It is a non-stainless steel with high silicon content, which makes it highly magnetic and able to resist the flow of electrical current. The manufacturing process of silicon steel involves several steps, including melting, hot rolling, annealing, and finally, cold rolling.
The first step in the manufacturing process is melting. A mixture of iron ore, coal, and limestone is melted in a blast furnace. The resulting molten iron is then transferred to a steelmaking furnace, where it is mixed with scrap steel and other materials to achieve the desired chemical composition. In order to increase the silicon content, ferrosilicon is added to the mix.
The molten steel is then cast into large slabs, which are reheated and passed through a series of rolling mills to reduce their thickness. This process is called hot rolling and it helps to refine the grain structure of the steel, making it stronger and more ductile.
After hot rolling, the silicon steel is annealed, or heat-treated at high temperatures to relieve any stress in the metal and improve its magnetic properties. The annealing process involves heating the steel to a temperature of around 1200 degrees Celsius and then slowly cooling it down over a period of several hours. This is done in a special annealing furnace that allows the steel to cool uniformly and avoid warping or cracking.
The final step in the manufacturing process is cold rolling. This involves passing the annealed steel through a series of cold rolling mills, which gradually reduce its thickness to the final desired thickness. The cold rolling process not only further refines the grain structure of the steel but also gives it a smooth, consistent surface finish.
Once the cold rolling process is complete, the silicon steel sheets are cut to size and shaped as needed to fit the specific requirements of the application. They are then packed and shipped to manufacturers who use them to make transformers, electric motors, and generators.
Overall, the manufacturing process of silicon steel is a complex and precise process that requires careful attention to every detail to produce high-quality steel with optimal magnetic properties. The demand for silicon steel is increasing globally, as more and more industries rely on efficient electrical systems, and this steel plays a key role in making those systems possible.

New waves of the epidemic and the overwhelming demand for oxygen in the healthcare sector have led to a scarcity of the product worldwide. Countries with severe shortages are diverting oxygen from the sectors of metallurgy and chemistry to healthcare, which reduces the productivity of the manufacturing industries. As the pandemic slows, the demand for medical oxygen will return to pre-crisis levels. In the post-pandemic period, the growing demand from the metallurgical and chemical industries will continue to shape market expansion. Decarbonization may emerge as a new market driver, with oxygen being used to produce synthesis gas from carbon dioxide.
