Silver Price in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average silver export price amounted to $683,905 per ton, with a decrease of -15.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $875,904 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($779,215 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($300,574 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (-1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Silver Price in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average silver import price amounted to $704K per ton, remaining stable against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 11% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $711K per ton in May 2023, and then dropped slightly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($773K per ton), while the price for Japan ($73,055 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Silver Exports in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of silver including silver plated with gold or platinum, when their volume decreased by -39.1% to 5K tons. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 83%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 8.3K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, silver exports shrank significantly to $3.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 122%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $6.7B, and then plummeted in the following year.

Silver Imports in Hong Kong SAR
Silver imports into Hong Kong SAR contracted to 3.7K tons in 2022, which is down by -10.7% on the year before. In general, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.2K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, silver imports declined to $2.4B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 129% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $2.8B, and then shrank in the following year.
