Sodium Carbonate Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
The average sodium carbonate import price stood at $436 per ton in July 2023, approximately equating the previous month. In general, import price indicated pronounced growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, sodium carbonate import price decreased by -12.3% against May 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 66% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $605 per ton. From January 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($441 per ton), while the price for China stood at $404 per ton.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+2.5%).

In July 2023, the average sodium carbonate export price amounted to $3,011 per ton, growing by 218% against the previous month. In general, the export price posted buoyant growth. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Spain ($5,551 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($619 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Taiwan (Chinese) (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
