Sorghum Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average sorghum import price amounted to $643 per ton, picking up by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 55% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1,193 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($1,484 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($377 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+16.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum export price amounted to $529 per ton, waning by -29.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $750 per ton in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($1,785 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($362 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+15.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Imports in Germany
In 2022, approx. 10K tons of sorghum were imported into Germany; which is down by -2.4% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +50.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 10K tons, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
In value terms, sorghum imports skyrocketed to $4.7M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 40%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
