Sorghum Price in India (FOB) - 2023
The average sorghum export price stood at $459 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 48% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $622 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($1,727 per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($325 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Price in India (CIF) - 2022
The average sorghum import price stood at $11,711 per ton in 2022, growing by 3,400% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw significant growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($38,357 per ton), while the price for Niger ($2,556 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2020 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Exports in India
In 2022, approx. 40K tons of sorghum were exported from India; falling by -29.5% compared with the year before. Overall, exports recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 57K tons, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, sorghum exports contracted rapidly to $17M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $22M, and then declined significantly in the following year.
