Spice Price in Greece (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $3,892 per ton in 2022, declining by -3.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a pronounced setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 18% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $5,216 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($8,290 per ton), while the price for China ($1,725 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+13.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Greece (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice export price amounted to $7,065 per ton, falling by -39.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the average export price increased by 47% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $16,147 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($21,140 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($1,561 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cyprus (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Spice Imports in Greece
In 2022, the amount of spices imported into Greece expanded modestly to 6.2K tons, increasing by 1.8% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 4.1%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
