Spice Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $9,228 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 3.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 25%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $10,391 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($18,925 per ton), while the price for Peru ($3,324 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice export price amounted to $26,867 per ton, with an increase of 49% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a slight decrease. The export price peaked at $31,323 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($126,660 per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($4,020 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+12.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Spice Imports in Switzerland
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of spices decreased by -6.2% to 9K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 8.8%.
In value terms, spice imports dropped modestly to $83M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $86M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, spice exports surged to $17M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
