In 2022, the average spices; turmeric (curcuma) import price amounted to $4,473 per ton, increasing by 68% against the previous year. Overall, the import price posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 209%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($5,282 per ton), while the price for India stood at $834 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+35.0%).

In 2022, the average spices; turmeric (curcuma) export price amounted to $1,957 per ton, with a decrease of -7.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 64%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,203 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Sudan ($2,416 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burundi ($87 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+41.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
