In 2022, the average starches; inulin import price amounted to $762 per ton, declining by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 193% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $5,234 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($3,317 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($603 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In May 2023, the average starches; inulin export price amounted to $4,484 per ton, which is down by -80.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded resilient growth. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $23,348 per ton in April 2023, and then contracted remarkably in the following month.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for the United States.
From October 2022 to May 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for the United States amounted to +8.9% per month.
Starches; Inulin Imports in Mexico
For the fourth year in a row, Mexico recorded growth in purchases abroad of starches; inulins, which increased by 55% to 204K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, starches; inulin imports surged to $156M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated significant growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +22.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.8% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Starches; Inulin Exports in Mexico
In 2022, starches; inulin exports from Mexico dropped modestly to 25K tons, shrinking by -2.8% on the previous year. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 61%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 26K tons, and then dropped modestly in the following year.
In value terms, starches; inulin exports expanded significantly to $33M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth.
