Starches; Inulin Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022

The average starches; inulin import price stood at $824 per ton in January 2022, with a decrease of -7.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a slight slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 14% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $1,005 per ton in January 2021; however, from February 2021 to January 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,774 per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan ($366 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average starches; inulin export price stood at $549 per ton in January 2022, with an increase of 8.1% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2021 to January 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2021 an increase of 28% m-o-m. The export price peaked in January 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Costa Rica ($700 per ton), while the average price for exports to Azerbaijan ($415 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cote d'Ivoire (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Starches; Inulin Imports in Russia

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of starches; inulins decreased by -13.7% to 36K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 41K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, starches; inulin imports fell to $31M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $35M, and then contracted in the following year.

In 2022, starches; inulin exports from Russia shrank rapidly to 39K tons, with a decrease of -21.7% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +31.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 68%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 49K tons, and then fell notably in the following year.
