Sugar Beet Price in Spain (CIF) - 2022
The average sugar beet import price stood at $4,200 per ton in 2022, reducing by -17.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 458%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $16,333 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($13,822 per ton), while the price for Italy ($887 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Portugal (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Beet Price in Spain (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar beet export price stood at $717 per ton in 2022, jumping by 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 568% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $3,025 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($8,584 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($434 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Beet Imports in Spain
In 2022, sugar beet imports into Spain dropped slightly to 137 tons, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +45.8% against 2020 indices.
