Sugar Crop Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
The average sugar crop import price stood at $838 per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average import price increased by 21%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $903 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($1,180 per ton), while the price for Lebanon ($358 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Crop Price in Egypt (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar crop export price stood at $270 per ton in 2022, stabilizing at the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $409 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Yemen ($20,786 per ton), while the average price for exports to Seychelles ($138 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Yemen (+43.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Crop Imports in Egypt
In 2022, overseas purchases of sugar crops decreased by -32.4% to 1.3K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a dramatic descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 0.7% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.8K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar crop imports declined markedly to $1.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 0.6% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.4M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
