Sugar Price in Austria (CIF) - 2023
The average sugar import price stood at $1,321 per ton in July 2023, with a decrease of -5.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated temperate growth from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, sugar import price increased by +16.4% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 33% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $1,394 per ton in June 2023, and then reduced in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($3,273 per ton), while the price for Mauritius ($981 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Austria (FOB) - 2023
The average sugar export price stood at $1,248 per ton in July 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 48% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,376 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($1,837 per ton), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($990 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Imports in Austria
In 2022, sugar imports into Austria shrank to 11K tons, waning by -14.1% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -5.2% was in 2020.
In value terms, sugar imports contracted to $10M in 2022. In general, imports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 7.3% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $12M. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +22.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 97%.
In value terms, sugar exports contracted significantly to $3.2M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% over the last three years.
