Sugar Price in Indonesia (CIF) - 2022
In March 2022, the average sugar import price amounted to $484 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period from March 2021 to March 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2021 an increase of 7.4% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $501 per ton. From December 2021 to March 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2022, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($486 per ton), while the price for Brazil ($480 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2021 to March 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in Indonesia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar export price amounted to $1,175 per ton, falling by -30.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 294% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $2,310 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($2,439 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($206 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Imports in Indonesia
In 2022, overseas purchases of sugar decreased by -48.4% to 2.7M tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports faced a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 5.3M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar imports shrank markedly to $1.1B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a deep slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year.

Sugar Exports in Indonesia
In 2022, the amount of sugar exported from Indonesia reduced sharply to 165 tons, waning by -40.4% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 245% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 277 tons, and then fell notably in the following year.
