Sugar Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average sugar import price amounted to $1,089 per ton, jumping by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 68% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,327 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($2,827 per ton), while the price for Swaziland ($806 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Paraguay (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar export price amounted to $1,220 per ton, waning by -4.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 220%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,869 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Egypt amounted to +10.6% per year.
Sugar Imports in Switzerland
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of sugar decreased by -8.8% to 6.6K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 3.2%.
In value terms, sugar imports reduced to $6.3M in 2022. In general, imports recorded a mild decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 7.2%.
