Sugar Price in the Czech Republic (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average sugar import price amounted to $1,133 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, sugar import price decreased by -2.7% against April 2023 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,164 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1,567 per ton), while the price for Argentina ($861 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Price in the Czech Republic (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugar export price amounted to $1,164 per ton, falling by -8.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 35%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $1,334 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,127 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($823 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Sugar Imports in the Czech Republic
In 2022, overseas purchases of sugar decreased by -8.5% to 32K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 37K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sugar imports rose modestly to $26M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Sugar Exports in the Czech Republic
