Sugary Soft Drink Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugary soft drink import price amounted to $1.2 per litre, stabilizing at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1.2 per litre; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2.4 per litre), while the price for Thailand ($0.6 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugary Soft Drink Price in China (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sugary soft drink export price amounted to $0.8 per litre, flattening at the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 an increase of 16% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($1.3 per litre), while the average price for exports to Russia ($0.5 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugary Soft Drink Imports in China
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of sugary soft drinks decreased by -40.3% to 124M litres in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 73%. Imports peaked at 209M litres in 2021, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sugary soft drink imports fell notably to $146M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $244M in 2021, and then fell notably in the following year.

Sugary Soft Drink Exports in China
Sugary soft drink exports from China stood at 101M litres in 2022, growing by 14% compared with 2021 figures. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, sugary soft drink exports surged to $77M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +13.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +73.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
