The average sulphates; of aluminium import price stood at $279 per ton in September 2023, declining by -17.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 16% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $337 per ton in August 2023, and then reduced rapidly in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Finland ($437 per ton), while the price for Ecuador ($153 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+1.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average sulphates; of aluminium export price amounted to $3,658 per ton, jumping by 457% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted a significant increase. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Italy.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Finland amounted to +108.9% per year.

Sulphates; of Aluminium Imports in Norway

For the fourth year in a row, Norway recorded growth in overseas purchases of sulphates; of aluminia, which increased by 26% to 15K tons in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +66.0% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, sulphates; of aluminium imports expanded notably to $3.1M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +59.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Sulphates; of Aluminium Exports in Norway

For the third year in a row, Norway recorded decline in overseas shipments of sulphates; of aluminia, which decreased by -97.8% to 150 kg in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a sharp decrease. The smallest decline of -33.9% was in 2020.

In value terms, sulphates; of aluminium exports dropped notably to $549 in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The smallest decline of -1.8% was in 2020.
