The average sulphites; of sodium import price stood at $424 per ton in August 2023, dropping by -5.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 4.8% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $634 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($499 per ton), while the price for Fiji ($320 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Fiji (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
